Designed in Uniform: Meet the Two Soldiers Behind Operation Sindoor’s Powerful Logo

Behind the bold strikes of Operation Sindoor, which dismantled nine terror camps across Pakistan and POK, lies a lesser-known story of creativity, symbolism, and heart. The powerful logo that became the face of this operation, shared across social media with patriotic pride, wasn’t made by an ad agency or design firm.

It was created by two Army men, Lt Col Harsh Gupta and Hav Surinder Singh, as revealed in the latest issue of the Indian Army’s in-house magazine Baatcheet, which is dedicated to Operation Sindoor.

A Logo That Speaks Volumes

With just a few strokes and colours, the Operation Sindoor logo captured a nation’s grief, grit, and resolve. It features the words OPERATION SINDOOR, where the first ‘O in “Sindoor” is stylized as a bowl of vermilion — the sacred red powder worn by married Hindu women. The second ‘O’ carries a streak of sindoor spilling out — a subtle but chilling reference to the bloodshed of the Pahalgam terror attack.

This symbol of both loss and retaliation first appeared in a 1:51 am social media post by the Indian Army on May 7, just minutes after the operation concluded. The message was simple:
#PahalgamTerrorAttack Justice is Served. Jai Hind!”

Since then, the logo has gone viral across platforms like Instagram and X, becoming a digital battle flag for justice.

Born from Tragedy, Backed by Honour

The operation was launched in retaliation for the horrific April 22 Pahalgam massacre, where five Pakistan-backed terrorists gunned down 26 civilians, mostly tourists enjoying the meadows of Baisaran Valley. The brutality of the attack sent shockwaves across India and the world.

The special edition of Baatcheet not only honours the victims with photographs and memorials, but also documents the operation’s precision timeline:
Date: May 7, Time: 1:05–1:30 am, as overseen by senior officials like Army Chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi.

The Army clarified that while India’s response was swift and strong, it was also measured, avoiding Pakistani military targets and focusing only on terror camps.

Telling the Story, One Reel at a Time

In the days that followed, the Army’s Strategic Communications Team produced a series of short videos inspired by the logo — all made in-house. These reels and clips have resonated with millions, blending cinematic impact with real military honour.

In his Mann Ki Baat radio address, Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the operation, calling it:

“Not just a military mission, but the face of a changing India. Operation Sindoor reflects the courage, resolve, and global standing of our nation.”

Two Soldiers, One Symbol

In a world of hashtags and headlines, it’s easy to forget the faces behind the symbols. But thanks to Lt Col Harsh Gupta and Hav Surinder Singh, the nation now has an emblem that doesn’t just represent military success — it speaks of sacrifice, pride, and the indomitable Indian spirit.
